Project Statment

In this new body of work, I explore the relationship between classical and intimate jewellery. I was inspired by the context we have all been faced with during the pandemic; whilst being stranded at my parents’ garden house surrounded by nature, silence and time I instantly knew the work was going to become a romantic gesture. Fascinated by the 17th century Baroque fashion garments seen in paintings, I was drawn in by the contrasting draped fabrics and bows and how time back then was appreciated in a different matter. With a primitive jewellery workbench at hand I naturally weaved a very fine thin brass wire into a fabric-like material, imitating the ribbons on the Baroque garments to create an intense, bold and still life collection of ribbons. The work is insisting the world to slow down.
